It is very important for me to use wood even if I think that wood itself has individual expression without any application on it. I would like to experiment wood in different ways: high relief, low relief carving, chiseling, burning, pasting other materials and sometimes I also add colour for additional extraordinary feelings. There is a connection between the rings of tree trunk and the subjects of my work which is focused both on human violence and lost civilisations from different periods.

Bio
Born in 1971 in Bangladesh, where he studied at the University of Dhaka, and now based in Rome, Italy, artist Rajaul Islam Lovelu researches the complex relationship between nature and humankind.
Over the years, he has collaborated several times in Italian-based projects with the artist Paolo W. Tamburella. He had solo exhibitions at Gallerikaya, Dhaka, Bangladesh, 2012; at the Indian Habitat centre, New Delhi, India, 2007; at Garden Gallery, New Delhi, India, 2006; Drik Gallery, Dhaka, Bangladesh, 2006; between his major exhibitions “Sense, Perception and Intepretation”, Alliance Française de Dhaka, Bangladesh, 2017; the 16th Asian Art Biennial, Shilpakala Academy, Dhaka, Bangladesh, 2014; “Mukh O Mukhosh”, Galleri Kaya, Uttara, Dhaka, Bangladesh, 2014; “Colour of time”, Nepal, Pakistan, 2013; “Dhaka Art Summit”, Samdani Art Foundation, Dhaka, Bangladesh; and many others. His work is part of both Bangladeshi and international public and private collections in India, Norway, Thailand, Italy and USA.
